Prop List

  • Camera x2 - We'll need one camera for filming and another to use as the Youtuber's camera while she is filming her videos. I will obtain the camera I film with from the school and borrow the other from a member of my family in order to make it look like a more realistic youtube setup.
  • Tripod x2 - We will need one tripod for filming and another to use as the Youtuber's tripod while she is filming her videos. We shall be obtaining both of these from the school media department as we do not have any between us.
  • Vase - We will need a vase of little value so that it can be smashed on screen without costing an extortionate amount.  It can be pretty plain or have decoration, whatever's available for the money.
  • Fairy Lights & White Sheet - We will need these for the background of the Youtube's videos to make them seem more innocent and professionally set up. Annie has both of these items at home and available to her so that's all covered.
  • Photographs, fake scripts etc - We're going to need to take photographs and things of and related to the youtuber we choose in order to be in the film.  Therefore we are going to have to take several stalkerish photos and make fake scripts and create other 'keepsake's' to make it look believable
  • Mobile devices x2 - One belonging to the stalker and one to the youtuber, we need two mobiles to show that the stalker is after this particular girl and to show that it is her photos that he is liking on instagram.

  • Costume -
Stalker: As the stalker is an insignificant and unimportant member of society he shall be wearing clothing of neutral, dark colours. Also, as he represents a negative and mysterious presence his costume may not be too revealing i.e. only showing hands and face - he must therefore be wearing full length trousers, long sleeves and dark shoes and socks.

Youtuber: As the youtuber is a popular online presence it is likely that she will be wearing fashionable and eye-catching clothes. She will also be wearing a full face of makeup and have her hair done because she is knowingly on camera and ready to perform.

Casting - Feedback

After auditioning several girls for the role of the Youtuber, I have decided to cast Anna Jordan for the role because I believe she has the confidence and appearance suitable to play the role of a teen pop culture icon. She is confident in front of the camera and is part of a Norwich Drama group which grants her with lots of experience.

I have two men cast to play the stalker, this is an option to me as the stalker's face will not be in shot at all throughout the two minutes and therefore in terms of ease I am capable of using both men where appropriate. I have cast Ron Powrie and Kevin McMullan as the stalker.

Coursework - Storyboard

This is my storyboard so far. Obviously these few scenes do not display the whole of my sequence as many more shots will be added in between and also I have not included an ending to my 2 minute opening as I have not come to a general conclusion as to what it will be yet as I do not want to give too much away within the first two minutes. I will continue storyboarding and hopefully eventually come to a conclusion.

Target Audience

 Who is your target audience?

My target audience will be teenage girls and young adults. This is because they are the most involved in social media types like youtube and instagram. The typical viewer would be a young girl who is interested in makeup and popular culture and who aspire to be like the most famous youtubers.

Where would they watch it and how?

This type of film could be played on television or streamed from netflix as a type of mockumentary with the aims of warning people of the tragic things that can happen if you share too much of your private information online.

What is it about your idea that appeals to this audience?

This idea appeals to my audience because of the rising power of social media. A film about the way in which most teenage girls publicise their lives can be a very personal thing as it reflects the everyday lives of the viewers.

Casting - Auditions

will not have to audition people for the role of the stalker as he will have no dialogue and his face will most probably not be in shot, to add to the creepy feel of his character.

To audition for the role of the Youtuber I will have several girls aged 16-18 read a monologue taken from an already existing youtube video. From this I can decide which girl suits the role of a youtuber the best.

The script will be taken from this video:

Here photos from auditions:

Location - Locations we will use & why

Bedroom -

We have decided to use my own bedroom to film the Youtuber's scenes in. My room has plain white walls and is easily interchangeable in order to make the setting more believeable. This location fits in to our idea so well because it is close to what a real Youtuber may have as their bedroom and it is also beneficial in terms of ease, we can easily redo shots etc without having to ask permission or travel very far. As it has white walls it helps to create the correct mise-en-scene as it draws focus to the actors rather than their surroundings yet at the same time the audience will be aware of the simplicity of the room, giving it an especially creepy feel when the Stalker enters it.

Town/Streets -

We have decided to continue the theme of ease and are using my own town to film the Stalker's scenes when he is walking the streets. My town will be effective as we know from first hand experience that it can be quite creepy when walking alone at night and we are certain that we can recreate this feeling for the audience when we begin to film.

Locations - Ideal Locations

What ideal locations are you planning on using?
I am planning on using two specific locations.
The first of which will be the Youtuber's bedroom. I would prefer a quite open space with plain walls so that filming is focused on the actor rather than their surroundings.

The second location is a dark town. I will obviously have to film in the evening so that the setting is accurate to the story so it will need to be somewhere with safe spaces in which to stand with a camera.

Casting - Character Profiles

What characters do we see?
In my two minute opening there will only be two characters. One male and one female.

Character Profiles
Character 1 - Youtuber
As of yet I have not decided whether this character will have a name or not. This character is bubbly and outgoing and has a large following on social media. She shares a significant proportion of her life on the internet and so people feel a connection with her when in reality she has no idea whom they are. The Youtuber is pretty and wears a substantially amount of makeup, which is tastefully done.
Character 2 - Stalker
The stalker is one of the people who have developed a fictional connection and relationship with the youtuber. He is obsessed with her and feels the need to follow all her social media accounts. He is quiet and has quite a creepy presence about him. He is obsessed with the youtuber and eventually has the compulsion to take his obsession a step further and meet her.

Costume
Youtuber - Modern fashionable clothes, several different outfits needed to stage fake youtube videos etc.
Stalker - All black including a black coat/jacket with a zip.

Update

After a lot of thought and attempted planning I have decided to scrap my idea of a modern day 'Much ado about nothing'. I have decided this based upon the fact that it would be too time consuming and complicated to arrange filming with such a large cast and varying settings. As a result I have decided to use a simpler idea with a smaller cast and less challenging settings which I will not need permission to use.

I have also decided to change genres. I have decided that to do a rom-com would be too monotonous and instead I have chosen to create a 2 minute Thriller opening.
